Team Lunch

Team lunches are a lot of fun. This is one time where guys let their guard down and talk about things aside from work. You get to learn a lot from the employee - their likes/dislikes, their frustrations, their outlook towards various things etc. I tend to use those to assign projects, talk to them etc.

Sorry, I digressed. We went to Mast Kalandar on CMH Road for lunch. The good part about this restaurant is that it looks and feel like a clean place. The food looks and tastes fresh although, I would like them to speed up a little bit in serving us the food we order.

We came back walking while coming back and it seems like ages since I have walked a long distance. I need to do this more often and more regularly. I used to do some decent exercising every day which i stopped after my trip to the US, where I hogged on chocolate chip cookies.

The weather is Bangalore is downright cold in the evening and nights. It is chilly and one does not feel like waking up early in the morning to exercise :-)

Will start exercising tomorrow and report back on how the first day went...

My kid's notes

Just like any father, I feel proud when my 5 year old son does something that makes you go "damn...how does he get these ideas?". Recently, he wrote about our trip to my hometown of Porbandar in his daily notebook that he has to ready in school. He had gone to see Peacocks and saw a lot of them. Here is what he wrote about it and then drew a picture. Looking at the picture, the peacock on the right is standing with his feet firmly planted on the ground. However, the peacock on the left has bent his legs and is getting ready for take off. I was zapped since I didn't expect such thinking from him.

Itching to move out

For the past few weeks, I have been itching to move out of Bangalore to may be a place like Ahmedabad. Bangalore has the most beautiful weather but it also has its mix of traffic, chaos and the like. Having lived away from Gujarat for so long (~25 years now), it seems like I want to go back and live there again. Those familiar sounds of the language of Gujarati coupled with sweet smell of fafda, jalebi, undhiu, khandvi and a chance to be close to my parents and my brother's family are probably are forcing me to think in this way. After being away from family for so long, in a way, I seem o be craving to live with them one more time. I don't know whether this desire is good or bad but it is there and I am just acknowledging it. I also long to be close to an ashram where I can go study Vedanta. "Who am I?" is a question I want to experience in this life time. Yes, I have jumped topics but then these are random thoughts. :)

Communalism and Equal Rights

I am not a politician or even a writer. However, I am concerned with what I am seeing in India. There are couple of aspects that really worry me about the country. One is when politicians try to brand themselves as secular/non-communal and others who subscribe to another ideological theory. I have seen the Congress party claim that BJP is communal. Why? Because it has affiliations with RSS, who in turn has affiliations with VHP? However, if you look at the dictionary, ‘communalism’ is defined as follows: Main Entry: com•mu•nal•ism Pronunciation: -n&l-"i-z&m Function: noun 1 : social organization on a communal basis 2 : loyalty to a sociopolitical grouping based on religious or ethnic affiliation - com•mu•nal•ist /-n&l-ist/ noun or adjective If you read the above dictionary meaning of communalism carefully, then Congress itself is guilty of being communal, as they so frequently like to label their opposition. Congress has been in power for greater part since India's...
