Abhinav takes his first wicket

Last weekend, more precisely on Sunday October 14th, Abhinav took his first wicket ever.  He got some boy out leg before wicket.  I have heard the story about a million times about how he ran up real fast and how the batsman try to pull his ball and how the ball hit his back leg and the coach declared him out.

It was pure joy and innocence on the face of Abhinav that I saw, something I wish I still retained.  Sometimes, I feel this is what sports are all about or rather should be.  His tiny 6 year old friends told him that they will inform everyone in their school bus that Abhinav took his 1st wicket.  I know many say that you should teach your kids to win at any cost, to make them winners.  I tend to disagree.

I have always believed that means to an end are more important than the end itself.  I try to inculcate the same in Abhinav.  Play the sport the right way and respect all the players even when they may not be as good at the sport as you may be.  Do your best and if that helps the team win, great!  If it doesn't and as long as you gave your best shot, no problem!  This may be primitive thinking and may not get you big rewards, but gives you a lot of satisfaction.  That thinking make not get you a lot of fame or visibility but gives you a good night's sleep and peace of mind. If I were a betting man, I would go for it every time.

Abhinav, great job!  Hope you keep bowling that ball on that coin and get that second wicket.

Great job Abhinav. Congrats.... It is not winning that matters, it is the participation that counts. Just go out there and give it your best shot. The rest will all follow. Play your heart out and while you do that ENJOY.

I am not sure about others but I for one am excited about the Bangalore Metro being thrown open to public in next few months. I just read in the newspaper yesterday that they have been testing the track with brand spanking new metro coach (hot pink in colour). I have not had an opportunity to look at the interiors personally but the newspaper photos have shown that it has a lot of standing space along with some seating spaces as well. With the traffic on Bangalore roads increasing, no amount of road widening is going to help. In fact, it is sad to see so many trees being cut down for measly widening on the road. I would rather they improve the already decent public transport further and increase the taxes on cars and bikes so much that it becomes harder to buy cars. Public transport anyday is better than the gaz guzzling vehicles we have on the road. And I am not a greenpeace activist. I like good cars but looking at the Bangalore traffic, I feel it is not worth even driving in...

So, Natwar Singh has ruled out resigning from his post of Foreign Minster of India, according to this report in the Hindustan Times. He said, not for a moment the thought of resignation crossed his mind ever since the controversy broke a week ago and claimed that he enjoyed the full confidence of both Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
